Back to School 2014!

I think we were all ready for school to start back this year for first grade and preschool!  The kids were excited to be back in the classroom and meet their new teachers, and I think I was ready for some routine with Greg being gone!
We made it to meet the teacher night with Langley.  She has Mrs. Radicia this year.  And have heard great things about her!  She had a few butterflies and was a little nervous about not having some of her close buddies in her class this year at first.
But after her first day she was very excited to know more of the little girls in the class than she thought!  They do so much together as a grade, like recess and lunch, that it really helps when the next year comes around.
All ready to go for First Grade!  She is my little "Fashion Maker" or "Gym Teacher" this year.  Definitely fits her creative, active, take charge personality she has.  I think her new Melissa and Doug fashion art set has put the fashion design in her head.  I remember this classic toy when I was a little girl.  And she loves to pick her clothes out (with very strong opinions!).
Every day I am so thankful for this...
being able to start the day walking to school is so nice!  The kids are always on their bikes or scooters.
 Bell Elementary School
All set to join her class...mom is not going in!
The first day she brought home her "All about me" bag.  She picked 5 things to share with her class to represent her.  Her favorite neon pet, american doll shoes, rainbow loom bracelet, girl scout patch, and her fashion design art.  All about you miss Langley!
Mason was SO ready to see his new school too!  He didn't start until a couple weeks after Langley, so he was anxious to get started.  Here he is at his meet the teacher night.
Ready to go for his first year of 3 YR old preschool!  As much as I was trying to convince him to steer toward a more realistic career...maybe pilot, firefighter, doctor??....nope, he was definitely stuck on spiderman ninja!  He definitely loves to be silly and likes everything silly, so I think this fits him well!  He has lots of college needed to get ready for this. ;)
Trinity Lutheran Church "Little Lights preschool"
Before school started, every sunday when I told him we were going to church he would always ask, "Are we going to the red church where my school is??"  "Nope, just our church buddy today, school isn't starting yet."
He probably could have done without his train backpack, because he tells me he doesn't like trains anymore.  Such a mean mom making him use the same one all again this year.  But hey, there are planes and cars on it too, and he likes those.  :)
Quick picture with my buddy who is growing up way too fast!
Every morning they start there day one on one with their teacher saying good morning, and telling them how to spell their name, and then grabbing a book to read in the circle until everyone arrives.  We love Mrs. Denny and Mrs. Marshall!  Mason didn't even look back!
There are a couple little boys from our Mops group in his class, Nolan and Sulley.  And he already has a few good friends Cole, Cale, and Owen that he talks about a lot.
It's gonna be a great year!!
And sigh sigh sigh for me...time for a couple hours of momma time.  Its not that glamorous...aka grocery time, errand time, dr. appt. time.  Those 2.5 hours go fast!

Summa Summa Summa Time!! Wrap up post.

We survived our trip cross country, and after being gone for a month, we were ready to relax and enjoy summer!  It was nice to be back home in our beds and to see all our friends.  Our pull in the drive-way selfie...
We had a week to unwind and then the kids two week swim lesson session started.  Spent a ton of time at the pool!  Not a one class got cancelled from the rain, so it was a great week to be there.  Made the days go by so fast!
Mason started to swim just a day after his lessons started with no credit to the lessons i don't think.  Everything just clicked and he was head under and kicking!  Just a couple weeks prior he wanted me to hold him the entire time.  So glad he got it!  He was so proud of himself!  He was ready for daddy to come home, so he could show him how he could swim now.
Langley was a fish and miss independent, swimming off on her own this year with her friends.  She mastered the diving board.
Mason loved going off the diving board during his lessons.  Felt like a big boy!
One morning we headed out for some berry picking before our lesson.  The beauty of Omaha is that this farm is only 5 minutes from our house.
We had fun with one of our favorite families.  And the berries were yummy!
With Daddy still in Norfolk this summer, we did everything we could to keep busy and check off our summer bucket list.  We were so glad to have visitors from Nashville.  We love the Gottswall girls!  They had a blast.
The kids performed many 'shows' for us.  We had lots of stuffed animals and gymnastics moves incorporated in. :)  You can see that Mason's token move was the handstand over the couch.  This was his position in every picture. :)  While the girls took the stage.
 Ta Da!!
We had some pool time.  Mason had to show them "Papio Pool" and mason had to show them his new swimming skills.  We have fond memories of swimming in their pool and he was a tad dramatic about the swimming.  ;)
 These little hams!
And a fun day at the children's museum.
They loved digging for fossils and gems.  And riding the train.
And we introduced them to our favorite greasy spot to indulge.
Always so sad to see these friends say goodbye!  The big girls always cry real tears, so its always an emotional night when they leave. :)  Can't wait until our next visit!

We had some summer fun at the zoo with the Loesch family again!
The poor prairie dogs got lots of attention that day.
 A fun crew!
We had lots of playing time with Isaac and Eli our neighbors.  Having lunch on our porch one day.
Had a morning bowling with neighbor friends.  Mason's first time.  We aren't much of a bowling family.  I think this winter there may be more of this in store.
 Langley had a couple spares.
Mason loved using his ball ramp to push the ball down the aisle.  They sure make it easier for kids to bowl these days!
We hosted a dinner night with our neighbors with slip and slide and a movie.
And a trip to the movies to see the new Planes movie!  Quite the set up at this theater.  They were all lounging!
It was a great, busy summer!  And we couldn't believe it was already time for school to start!
